From Hut to Stardom: Skales Opens Up on Humble Beginnings in Kaduna

Popular Nigerian singer, Skales, has shared an emotional story about his early life struggles, revealing how he once lived in a hut with his late mother in Kaduna before fame and success came his way.

The artist, speaking on A TownHall Different Podcast, recounted how difficult life was while growing up. According to him, he and his mother would spread mats on the bare floor to sleep until they eventually moved into a boys’ quarters (BQ).

Skales’ First Encounter With a TV

Skales also narrated how he had no access to a television while growing up. He admitted that his first TV experience came after he was signed to Banky W’s EME record label.

In his words:

“I’ve been through a lot. I come from Kaduna, from a poor family. My mum was a teacher. I used to live in a hut before we moved to a BQ. We slept on mats, and my mom would put wrapper on the floor. From that situation to who I am today is crazy. The first time I had my own TV was when EME signed me. I would switch it on and off in amazement.”

Skales emphasized how his tough background shaped him, noting that his rise to stardom remains a humbling reminder of how far he has come.
