Fresh Fire In PDP! ‘Warning Letters’ Leak Deepens Wike–Damagum War As Anyanwu, Bature Fight Back

The crisis tearing through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new twist on Sunday, following the circulation of alleged “warning letters” said to have been issued to top members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Naija News gathered that the letters, dated September 30, 2025, and reportedly signed by pro-Damagum loyalists in Abuja, were addressed to the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and National Organising Secretary, Captain Umar Bature (rtd).

According to the documents, both officials were accused of insubordination and breach of party discipline. But the two men have denied the authenticity of the letters, calling them “afterthoughts and political fabrications.”

Speaking to The Nation, Senator Anyanwu dismissed the move as a joke taken too far.

“It is nonsense! Can anyone there dare give me a warning letter?” he fumed.

Captain Bature also described the letters as a “coordinated smear campaign,” insisting that none of the signatories had the constitutional power to discipline NWC members.

“They just want to justify the nonsense they did. Those behind this have no authority under the PDP constitution,” he said.

What has raised further suspicion is the inclusion of Abdulrahman Mohammed, the man the Wike/Anyanwu bloc declared as replacement for Ambassador Umar Damagum, among the signatories.

Others who reportedly signed the controversial letters include Chief Ali Odefa, whose claim to the position of National Vice Chairman (South East) was nullified by the Federal High Court in Abuja last Friday, and Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, whose caretaker committee was also dissolved.

The same court ruling affirmed Chief Dan Orbih, a close ally of Nyesom Wike, as the legitimate South-South Zonal Chairman of the PDP.

Party insiders told The Nation that the timing of the letters and the involvement of invalidated signatories expose “political desperation” within the camp.

Meanwhile, the Wike/Anyanwu faction insists its leadership changes are valid. Prominent figures such as Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Ortom, and Philip Aduda have all backed the shake-up, describing it as a move to “reposition the PDP for better performance.”

As the drama unfolds, observers say the Wike vs Damagum rivalry could further weaken the PDP ahead of the next general elections, unless urgent reconciliation efforts are made.
