Fresh Allegations Against Matawalle Are Political, Says Ex-Zamfara Commissioner

Former Zamfara State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, has dismissed renewed allegations linking Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to banditry, describing them as politically driven. Dosara said the accusations—recently revisited by columnist Farooq Kperogi—have been repeatedly investigated since 2019 without any indictment or official findings. He noted that those making the allegations, including former aides and political rivals, have never pursued formal complaints through security agencies or the courts.

Dosara argued that Matawalle’s security strategies as governor, including dialogue with armed groups, were once nationally supported before intelligence assessments prompted a change in approach. He warned that recycling unsubstantiated claims could undermine national security efforts and morale within the defence sector. He further stated that President Tinubu’s decision to retain Matawalle is based on intelligence unavailable to the public, urging a security discourse rooted in facts, not speculation.
