France urges Hamas to accept Trump’s Gaza plan

France and Italy have thrown their weight behind U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly announced peace plan to end the war in Gaza, describing it as a rare and critical chance to restore peace in the region.

French President Emmanuel Macron, in a statement shared on X, applauded Washington’s initiative, stressing that it provides a clear path to ending hostilities and ensuring the release of Israeli hostages.

“I expect Israel to engage resolutely on this basis. Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and follow this plan,” Macron declared.

Italy also hailed the proposal, calling it a potential “game changer.” A statement from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s office expressed readiness to work closely with the United States, European allies, and Middle Eastern partners to secure the plan’s success.

“The proposal presented today by U.S. President Donald Trump could mark a turning point, enabling a permanent cessation of hostilities, the immediate release of all hostages, and full and secure humanitarian access for the civilian population,” the statement read.

Italy further urged Hamas to act decisively, stressing that the militant group, which ignited the conflict with its October 7, 2023 attacks, now has “the opportunity to end it by releasing the hostages, agreeing to have no role in Gaza’s future, and fully disarming.”

Both European leaders called on all parties to seize the opportunity, warning that failure to act could prolong the devastating conflict.
