FG Launches ₦50m Grant for Student Innovations

The Federal Government has introduced the Student Venture Capital Grant, a groundbreaking initiative that offers equity-free grants of up to ₦50 million to startups led by students.

This programme, announced by the Ministry of Education, aims to support innovations in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM).

The President has challenged us to look for the next Moonshot within our tertiary institutions. We are not just looking for projects; we are scouting for future Nigerian Unicorns,” stated Education Minister Tunji Alausa.

The grant is designed to fund ventures that address real-world challenges and have clear potential for scale and commercialisation, providing students with a pathway from idea to market.

Full support system for beneficiaries

Successful applicants will receive mentorship, incubation, and access to tools to strengthen their ventures.

The Ministry has also announced a partnership with Google to enhance the programme’s evaluation process.

Google’s Gemini AI will facilitate automated assessments, and all applicants will receive a one-year Gemini Pro licence along with premium learning resources.

Our goal is to ensure students begin their entrepreneurial journey with the best tools globally. We are building a powerful innovation funnel from idea to market domination,” explained the Ministry.

Applicants should demonstrate scalability, market relevance, and the potential to solve critical national or global challenges,” the statement added.

How to apply

The application portal, svcg.education.gov.ng, is now open to students in accredited tertiary institutions.

Interested participants are advised to submit proposals promptly, ensuring all required information and documents are completed for smooth evaluation.
