FG Declares Religious Violence Direct Threat To Nigeria’s Unity

The Federal Government has warned that any form of violence disguised as religious conflict will be treated as a direct attack on the Nigerian state. National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, made this clear while reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting citizens of all faiths across the country.

Ribadu spoke at the close of the first session of the U.S.–Nigeria Joint Working Group held in Abuja, which focused on religious freedom and insecurity. He described Nigeria as a deeply plural society where the safety of Christians, Muslims and adherents of other beliefs remains non-negotiable.

According to the NSA, the government’s strategy against insecurity goes beyond military action. He explained that Nigeria is combining security operations with the rule of law, humanitarian safeguards and strategic communication to ensure lasting peace. Ribadu stressed that this integrated approach is designed to build public trust, strengthen social cohesion and prevent any attempt to destabilise the country through religious sentiments.
