FG, ASUU in Fresh Talks Over Proposed 40% Salary Increase, Tension Rises Across Universities

The Federal Government has reportedly offered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) a 40% salary increase as both parties resume negotiations over lecturers’ welfare. According to Punch, the discussions are being led by the government delegation chaired by Yayale Ahmed.

ASUU branch leaders who attended the latest meeting are expected to brief their members nationwide as the union’s one-month ultimatum to the Federal Government expired last Saturday, heightening tension across public universities.

A senior ASUU member, who requested anonymity due to restrictions during negotiations, confirmed that talks will continue next week.
“They made a proposal of a 40% salary increment. Branch leaders will go back and update members. Negotiations continue next week,” the source said.

The academic community now awaits ASUU’s next steps, as the ongoing talks could determine whether a new industrial action will be announced.
