“Fame Doesn’t Protect Us from Pain” – Singer Iyanya

Nigerian music star, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has drawn attention to the emotional challenges faced by celebrities, especially men, in the entertainment industry.

In a deeply reflective post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the “Your Waist” crooner reminded fans that fame does not shield public figures from emotional pain or personal struggles.

Describing stardom as “a double-edged sword,” Iyanya noted that behind the glitz and glamour often lies loneliness, pressure, and silent battles. “Celebrities are humans with deep feelings and struggles like everyone else,” he wrote. “Beyond the media glamorisation is a person simply yearning to be human like the rest of us.”

He further emphasized that male celebrities face unique challenges, as societal norms discourage them from showing vulnerability or asking for help. “Men are wired not to show weakness, not to ask for help, or they risk being called soft,” he added, stressing that this mindset worsens mental health issues among men in the spotlight.

Iyanya’s candid message has since earned praise from fans and fellow entertainers, many describing it as a wake-up call to normalize open conversations about mental health, particularly among African men.

Social media users commended him for breaking the silence and encouraging emotional honesty in an industry known for its relentless demands.
