An economic expert at Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Kabiru Isah Dandago, has backed the Federal Government’s plan to implement the 2026 tax reform laws, insisting there is no proof yet that the laws contain harmful clauses.

Speaking amid growing controversy, Dandago said objections raised by some House of Representatives members after the bills were passed and signed do not invalidate the laws. He dismissed claims of discrepancies between the versions passed by lawmakers and those later gazetted, noting that no concrete evidence has been presented.

According to him, concerns would only be valid if any clause is shown to negatively affect Nigerians’ livelihoods. He urged lawmakers making allegations to provide facts that could prompt a formal review.

The remarks come as the Federal Government maintains January 1, 2026, as the take-off date for the new Nigerian Tax Act and Tax Administration Act.
