Former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has shared key tactical advice ahead of the Super Eagles’ crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa on Tuesday.
Speaking on SuperSport, Siasia urged the team to capitalise on Ademola Lookman’s set-piece expertise and Tolu Arokodare’s physical presence to break down the formidable Bafana Bafana defense.
Nigeria heads to Bloemfontein following a narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo, where Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Arokodare came off the bench to score the decisive goal. The win keeps the Super Eagles within striking distance of Group C leaders South Africa.
Siasia acknowledged the challenge posed by a South African side that has won four consecutive qualifiers — a feat they haven’t achieved since 2002. He emphasized the need for Nigeria to minimise defensive errors, avoid unnecessary fouls, and make the most of scoring opportunities.
“Facing Nigeria has never been easy for South Africa, but we must have a clear plan. We need to keep the ball, win free-kicks, and allow players like Lookman to make the difference. Arokodare can also be important in holding up play and creating chances,” Siasia said.
His advice underlines a strategy that could secure at least a point — or all three — to strengthen Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
