A British man accused of ploughing his vehicle into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League title win has pleaded not guilty to 31 charges.
Paul Doyle, 53, a former Royal Marine from Croxteth, appeared by video link from prison at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday. He denied multiple counts relating to 29 victims, ranging from a six-month-old baby to a 77-year-old pensioner.
The shocking incident occurred on May 26, when thousands of Liverpool fans filled the streets to celebrate the club’s record-equalling 20th English top-flight championship. What began as a joyous occasion descended into chaos when Doyle allegedly drove into supporters.
According to Merseyside Police, 134 people sustained injuries in the incident, sparking widespread outrage across the football community.
Doyle, a father of three, faces charges including dangerous driving, grievous bodily harm with intent, and affray.
A provisional trial date has been set for November 24, with the hearing expected to last three to four weeks.
