A former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has urged the Federal Government to treat U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat of military action against Nigeria with utmost seriousness.
Naija News reports that Trump, shortly after declaring Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), warned that the United States may intervene militarily over alleged killings of Christians in the country.
In a fiery post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote:
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.
I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet.”
Reacting during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ejiofor said Nigeria must not dismiss Trump’s statement as “mere talk,” stressing that the former U.S. president is known for acting on his words.
“I think the Federal Government should take Donald Trump seriously. I’m calling on the Nigerian government to explore all diplomatic channels,” Ejiofor advised.
“It’s a very serious matter when it concerns Donald Trump because he says what he wants to do — and he goes ahead to do it. So, it’s not something we can gloss over. It’s a threat.”
While the Federal Government has rejected Trump’s genocide allegations and reaffirmed its commitment to religious freedom, Ejiofor maintained that Nigeria must adopt a proactive diplomatic approach to avoid international escalation.
