Ex-Abia Governor Theodore Orji Joins APC, Shakes Political Landscape

Former Abia State Governor and two-term Senator, Theodore Ahamefule Orji, also known as Ochendo, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move follows his resignation from the PDP and completion of membership formalities with the ruling party at the federal level.

Orji, who governed Abia from 2007 to 2015 and later represented Abia Central in the Senate for two terms, retired from active politics in 2023. Analysts say his defection is poised to boost APC’s influence in the South-east and trigger significant realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

While Orji has not publicly disclosed reasons for leaving the PDP, political observers note that his shift reflects broader trends of strategic repositioning among Nigerian political elites, highlighting the fluid nature of party affiliations in the country.
