Manchester United are reportedly moving closer to appointing former midfielder Michael Carrick as interim head coach following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
Reports indicate that talks between the club and Carrick are ongoing, with United keen to settle on a temporary manager before midweek. The club wants the new interim coach in place by Tuesday to oversee training on Wednesday ahead of the highly anticipated Manchester derby on January 17.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been mentioned as a possible option, sources say no formal discussions are currently planned with the former United manager. However, the club has not completely ruled out his return as deliberations continue.
Carrick and Solskjaer have both held meetings with United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, who is spearheading the search process. A final decision is expected soon as the club looks to stabilise the team for the remainder of the season.
