Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has explained why his side fell to a 3-1 Premier League defeat against Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Blues started strong, with Enzo Fernandez finding the net in the first half, but Brighton hit back through goals from Danny Welbeck and Maxim De Cuyper.
Chelsea’s hopes of staging a comeback were dashed when defender Trevoh Chalobah was shown a red card early in the second half, leaving the team with ten men.
Maresca’s Reaction
Speaking after the game, Maresca admitted that Chelsea were the dominant side before the red card incident but completely lost control after Chalobah’s dismissal.
“Today in the first half we were in control of the game, creating chances, we didn’t concede anything, and in the second half after five or six minutes, because of our mistake, we were with 10 players and again unfortunately the game changed,” Maresca said.
What’s Next for Chelsea
The loss leaves Chelsea under more pressure as they prepare for a crucial Champions League clash against Benfica on Tuesday.
