The Nigerian Presidency has launched a scathing response to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following his recent televised remarks against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the Presidency, El-Rufai—alongside some opposition politicians—is allegedly plotting to destabilize Tinubu’s administration because they feel sidelined from the current political structure.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, in a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, described El-Rufai’s position as contradictory. He reminded Nigerians that El-Rufai had previously admitted that four years is too short a period for any leader to bring about meaningful change.
Onanuga argued that unlike El-Rufai and other “underachieving governors,” Tinubu has already recorded significant achievements in just two years.
“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers, and Kaduna, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes in our country over the past two years,” Onanuga wrote.
📈 Tinubu’s Achievements Highlighted
The Presidency listed several accomplishments under Tinubu’s administration:
- Economic Growth: Foreign reserves have risen to their highest level in 44 months.
- Stock Market Boom: The Nigerian Stock Market has generated over ₦26 trillion in new wealth, with the All Share Index surging from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points.
- Social Interventions: Indigent students now have access to the National Student Loan Fund (NELFUND), while vulnerable citizens are benefiting from direct cash transfers.
- Revenue Growth: National revenue has grown substantially, with expectations to hit new records when tax reforms fully take effect.
- Federal Allocation: States and local governments are now receiving more funding, enabling them to execute capital projects and create more jobs.
Onanuga emphasized that these reforms are clear evidence of Nigeria’s progress under Tinubu’s leadership.
⚖️ Presidency’s Warning to Opposition
He accused those calling for Tinubu’s removal of being power-hungry politicians who have lost political relevance.
“May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people,” Onanuga declared.
He further vowed that a past video of El-Rufai admitting that four years is not enough for any leader to deliver results would be used against him during future political campaigns.
