Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ekiti State on Friday stormed the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, protesting against what they described as an attempt to impose a consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2026 elections.
Chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards with inscriptions such as “We Don’t Want Consensus,” “Women Say No to Consensus Candidate in Ekiti,” and “Disqualification Is Political Harassment,” the protesters demanded a free and fair primary election.
They accused certain party leaders of attempting to shut out other aspirants from the governorship race under the guise of consensus, insisting that the move was undemocratic and would destabilize the party in the state.
Security personnel were seen at the scene to prevent any breakdown of law and order as the protest continued peacefully.
The protesters urged the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to uphold internal democracy and ensure a transparent primary election that reflects the will of the people.
