Actress and comedian Ego Nwodim has officially announced her departure from Saturday Night Live (SNL) after an impressive seven seasons. The news was shared via her Instagram account, where she expressed heartfelt gratitude to Lorne Michaels, her fellow castmates, writers, and crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship.
Nwodim reflected on her time at SNL, stating, “Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could ever have imagined and I will carry those memories with me always.” Her exit comes just ahead of the show’s 51st season, which is set to premiere on October 4, 2025.
Joining SNL in 2018 as a featured player, Nwodim was promoted to repertory status in 2020. While the reasons for her departure remain undisclosed, the announcement has left fans in shock.
Since its launch on October 11, 1975, Saturday Night Live has become a cultural staple, known for its live sketches, parodies, and celebrity guest hosts.
Fans have reacted to Nwodim’s exit with mixed emotions. Mary Jone commented, “She had some great characters. Here’s hoping her career in comedy takes off in a sitcom or movies.” Danielle expressed sadness over the departures, stating, “I’m honestly sad to see Ego and Heidi both leaving.” Patterson noted, “It was her decision to leave. Still, the show won’t be the same without her.” Larons added, “Something ain’t right over there at SNL chyle.”
