The Egba Economic Summit Group has urged Minister of Works, Dr. David Umahi, to accelerate the completion of the Abeokuta-Ajebo Road, warning that delays are hampering economic growth and security in Ogun State.
The road, stretching from Idi Aba in Abeokuta through three local government areas to link Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, is vital for traffic decongestion and regional trade. In a letter dated January 16, 2026, Summit President Dr. Gbenga Adeoye highlighted the stalled construction’s negative impact on motorists, the newly established Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences (FUMMSA), and potential industrial hubs in Ajebo.
The group praised other Renewed Hope Projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and night repairs on Sango-Abeokuta Road, but insisted that the Abeokuta-Ajebo road must maintain high construction standards beyond the city limits. The Summit also copied traditional leaders and former governors, emphasizing the urgency for federal intervention to boost economic development and ensure road durability.
The Summit concluded by urging immediate action to complete the project, stressing its potential to transform Obafemi-Ajebo and surrounding areas.
