EFCC Raises Alarm: Yahoo Boys Now Turning to Rituals for “Spiritual Power”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a serious warning about a disturbing new development among internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Boys.

In a post shared on its official X handle on Friday, October 17, the anti-graft agency disclosed that these fraudsters—now referred to as “G Boys”—are increasingly involving themselves in ritual practices to strengthen their cyber fraud activities.

According to the EFCC, the situation marks a troubling shift from purely digital crime to a blend of technology and spiritual manipulation. The agency expressed concern that the desperation for fast wealth among Nigerian youths is pushing many into both fraudulent and ritualistic practices.

“G Boys are now going spiritual, involving themselves in rituals and making it the new usual. EFCC will come for any individual—then, it won’t be business as usual,” the statement read.

The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying its crackdown on cybercriminals, warning that no form of “spiritual protection” will shield offenders from justice. The Commission also urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities, assuring Nigerians that it remains relentless in safeguarding society from the growing menace of cybercrime and money-related offenses.
