EFCC Arrested Me for Not Paying Tax — Rapper Oladips Reveals

Popular Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, has opened up on his recent ordeal with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), revealing that he was detained for failing to pay tax.

Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, the rapper recounted how EFCC operatives stormed his estate around 3 a.m. in November 2024 and arrested several residents, including him, over alleged internet fraud.

According to Oladips, he was asleep at home when he got a message from his estate group chat that EFCC officials were going from house to house.

“Nigeria just happened to me because it was just a normal night and EFCC entered my estate. I mean it’s a big estate and they were just going from house to house arresting people,” he narrated.

“I was on my bed pressing phone because it’s none of my business. I didn’t run because I don’t do fraud, I don’t do Yahoo. Na person wey do fraud go dey run.

The next thing, they broke my kitchen door and entered my house, asking for my phone and laptop. I told them I only use two phones and don’t own a laptop.”

He explained that after investigating and finding no evidence of fraud, EFCC officials accused him of tax evasion and detained him for that reason.

“When they couldn’t find anything to hold me down, one of their oga came out and asked if I pay tax. That’s how they locked me up for not paying tax,” Oladips added.

The rapper described the experience as traumatic and unfair, lamenting how quickly innocent people can become victims of systemic issues in Nigeria.
