The Edo State PDP has criticised Governor Monday Okpebholo’s proposal to launch a state-owned airline, describing it as a distraction from urgent state issues. The PDP said that while the governor claims the initiative will boost the aviation sector and investment, it ignores pressing challenges such as poor infrastructure, failing drainage systems, inadequate healthcare, and stalled strategic projects.
Publicity Secretary Dan Osa-Ogbegie called the idea “misplaced and insensitive,” warning that running an airline requires massive investment, technical expertise, and continuous subsidies—resources Edo State currently lacks. The PDP highlighted neglected projects including the Museum of West African Art, Radisson Hotel, Ossiomo Power Project, and EdoGIS.
The party urged the government to prioritise impactful initiatives like road rehabilitation, school and hospital revitalisation, reliable utilities, security, and support for small businesses. They said the airline plan represents optics over substance and called on the administration to refocus on the real needs of Edo citizens.
