The Edo State Government has dismissed accusations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it is targeting former Governor Godwin Obaseki and dismantling his legacy projects. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, described the claims as false, laughable, and rooted in the PDP’s “internal disarray.”
Afegbua argued that the PDP has no moral ground to criticise the current administration, insisting the party is still battling divisions allegedly caused by Obaseki’s entry in 2020. He accused the former governor of fracturing the once-unified PDP into multiple factions, including Legacy PDP, New PDP, and Government House PDP.
The commissioner also attacked Obaseki’s developmental record, saying several of his projects—such as the Benin Enterprise Park—exist only in name. Afegbua added that the Okpebholo administration is now working to fix infrastructure he claims was neglected under Obaseki’s watch.
