Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has opened up about the harrowing experience that led her to call off her wedding after enduring severe physical abuse from her former partner.

Speaking on Real Life With Aunty Ayo Adesanya, the Fuji House of Commotion star revealed that her ex-fiancé once dragged her by the hair until she bled, a traumatic incident that pushed her to end the relationship just a day before their wedding.

Despite pressure from family members and her partner to proceed with the marriage, Nwosu said she refused to sign the marriage papers, choosing her peace over societal expectations.

“Marriage is not a do or die affair. When domestic violence becomes too much, it’s best to walk away,” she said. “If you accept it once, be ready to keep accepting it for the rest of your life.”

The actress recalled one particularly violent incident:

“He broke the kitchen door while I was boiling water, dragged me by my hair, and I started bleeding. That’s a day I’ll never forget. I picked up a pestle, ready to defend myself. My neighbours even saw me naked.”

Ngozi Nwosu urged women to leave abusive relationships immediately, emphasizing that apologies after violence are meaningless.

“Don’t stay with a man who beats you and apologizes later. Once it happens, it will happen again,” she warned.

Her story has since resonated deeply across social media, sparking renewed conversations about domestic violence and women’s safety in Nigeria.
