Dollar to Naira Today: Black Market Rate Stirs Attention Nationwide

The dollar-to-naira exchange rate continues to draw attention as traders and businesses monitor movements in the foreign exchange market. As of today, January 7, 2026, the naira weakened slightly at the Lagos parallel market, also known as the black market.

Checks from Bureau De Change (BDC) operators show that the US dollar is being sold at ₦1,485 and bought at ₦1,477. This reflects ongoing pressure on the naira amid sustained demand for foreign currency.

It is important to note that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) does not recognise transactions carried out in the parallel market. The apex bank has repeatedly advised individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to use official banking channels.

Despite this directive, the black market remains a key reference point for many Nigerians, as it often reflects real-time market demand and supply conditions.
