The Delta State Police Command has held an emergency stakeholders’ peace meeting to address rising tensions among the Okwama, Okoloba, and Akugbene communities over boundary disputes and fishing rights.
According to Police PRO Bright Edafe, the meeting—presided over by Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda—brought together community leaders, youth representatives, and security stakeholders in Warri.
The CP stressed that the Command will not allow avoidable conflict to threaten stability in the state, urging cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
After deliberations, stakeholders agreed that no community should impose boundaries on waterways and that residents must be free to fish without intimidation. Youths were also warned against bearing arms or engaging in violence.
The Command will hold a follow-up meeting with affected LGA chairmen, while a Peace Committee WhatsApp platform will be created to enhance communication and early-warning response.
