Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has paid a touching tribute to his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, by commissioning a hostel named in her honour at Clifford University, Abia State.
The singer arrived in the state alongside members of his 30BG crew and nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest to officially unveil the project, drawing massive excitement from students and fans who gathered to celebrate the emotional occasion.
According to Davido, the project represents more than just a memorial — it is a continuation of his mother’s legacy as a teacher, philanthropist, and advocate for education.
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, understood that true greatness is not measured in numbers, but in impact. She believed that education and compassion could change lives,” Davido said.
He explained that his late mother’s principles of love, learning, and humanity continue to guide his life, music, and humanitarian efforts.
The “Timeless” crooner also delivered a moving commencement speech to Clifford University’s graduating class, urging young Africans to pursue their dreams with passion and purpose.
“Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning. We must use our platforms and voices to build, not just for ourselves, but for those coming after us,” he stated.
Davido emphasized that the hostel project is a symbol of hope for young Africans, adding that his mother’s values inspired his philosophy of “We Rise By Lifting Others.”
His wife, Chioma, reacted emotionally to the video of the commissioning ceremony, describing it as “so beautiful.”
