Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has described members who defected from the party as “political travellers,” following Peter Obi’s move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing supporters at a rally held at the Labour Party national secretariat in Abuja. He said some individuals who were given the party’s presidential ticket in 2022 later chose to leave despite reconciliation efforts.
According to him, neither the LP nor its leaders should be blamed for the defections, adding that those who exited were merely continuing their political journeys. He stressed that the party remains focused and united.
Baba-Ahmed also hinted at a possible presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 elections, while reaffirming the LP’s pride in its electoral performance despite financial challenges and alleged electoral irregularities. He noted that the party produced a governor, senators and dozens of lawmakers across the country.
