Dangote Refinery Slashes Petrol Prices and Launches Free Supply to 11 States

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a significant reduction in petrol prices and will begin free direct supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to select states starting Monday, September 15, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, the company revealed that petrol will be supplied directly to 11 states at varying retail pump prices. Consumers in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti will purchase petrol at ₦841 per litre, while those in Abuja, Delta, Rivers, Edo, and Kwara will access the product at ₦851 per litre. The refinery has set its gantry price at ₦820 per litre.

To address distribution challenges, the refinery will also provide free delivery of PMS to registered filling stations in the participating states, with plans for a nationwide expansion in the coming months. Station operators are invited to register to benefit from this programme, which aims to strengthen distribution networks, minimize supply disruptions, and revive dormant petrol stations across the country.

Africa’s largest refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, commenced operations in 2024 to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products. In July 2025, the company received 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks under a ₦720 billion programme to distribute 65 million litres of refined products daily, saving the country over ₦1.7 trillion annually in energy costs and generating more than 15,000 jobs.

The nationwide rollout of direct supply, initially set for August 15, was postponed to September 15 due to disruptions in the petroleum sector. Earlier this month, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) issued a three-day ultimatum over market fairness concerns, while the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) went on a two-day strike.

These disputes were resolved after the Department of State Services (DSS) facilitated a meeting between the refinery’s management, labor leaders, and government representatives. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed, securing agreements on unionization, workers’ protection, and fair competition in the downstream sector.

With its latest price cut and distribution plan, the Dangote Refinery is taking a crucial step toward stabilizing Nigeria’s fuel supply chain and advancing the country’s energy security ambitions. Industry stakeholders anticipate the inclusion of more states in the scheme in the upcoming weeks.
