Customs Tightens Borders as ₦181.6m Petroleum Products Seized in 8 Weeks

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), under Operation Whirlwind, has intercepted petroleum products valued at ₦181.6 million in an intensified crackdown on smuggling activities along the Nigeria–Cameroon borders. National Coordinator, ACG Kolapo Oladeji, revealed in Yola that the seizures were made during 55 targeted operations across smuggling hotspots in Adamawa.

Oladeji said the renewed operation aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate on energy and food security, adding that security machinery has been fully repositioned to make the borders airtight. He warned smugglers to desist, stressing that Customs will dismantle all illegal supply chains undermining the nation’s economy.

The seized petroleum products will be auctioned to the public. Assistant Legal Adviser at the AGF’s office, Mrs. Abidemi Adewumi-Aluko, described the auction as a strategic reclaiming of national resources, noting that petroleum smuggling attracts life imprisonment due to its threat to national security.
