In a move that underscores the persistent internal turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a major faction has abruptly postponed its governorship primary for the upcoming Ekiti State election.
The primary, which was scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, has been shelved indefinitely. The faction, led by Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, formally communicated this decision to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, in an official letter.
The correspondence cited “logistics reasons constraining this exercise” as the grounds for the postponement, offering no further details on the specific nature of the challenges. This faction is widely perceived to be loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, adding a significant political dimension to the delay.
The postponement injects further uncertainty into the PDP’s electoral preparations, leaving aspirants and delegates in a state of limbo. It also adds another layer to the party’s well-documented struggles with leadership disputes and factional control, raising questions about its stability ahead of the contest.
The letter assured INEC that a new date would be communicated once internal arrangements are finalized.
