Cleric Challenges Gumi on Plateau Mass Graves

Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo has issued a strong challenge to Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, insisting that the graves of victims recently buried in Plateau State should be opened in the presence of top Nigerian officials to prove the bodies are real.

In a video posted on X, Dachomo reacted to claims attributed to Gumi, alleging that mass burials conducted after renewed killings in the area were fabricated. According to Dachomo, Gumi allegedly said, “all the corpses that we buried is a lie. It is only coffin. We buried coffin. All of them, they are empty.”

Dachomo described the comments as dangerous, offensive, and an attempt to discredit the suffering of Christian communities repeatedly targeted by armed groups.

He said he was shocked when he received the report while travelling. “A phone call comes and say, Reverend, have you heard what is happening? I say, what is happening again?” he said.

He added that the claim amounted to dismissing the pain of grieving families and communities. “Turning my tears to become a hypocrite dress? This is an empty coffin,” he said, accusing Gumi of trivialising the killings.

The cleric further condemned what he described as government inaction, saying authorities had repeatedly failed to protect Christian communities. “The same government exposed us to Fulani killings by refusing to stop Fulani from killing us. Are they not exposing us to them? Their silence is exposing the Christians all over Nigeria,” he said.

He also stated that terrorist groups were emboldened. “They are rejoicing, they kill because they know the government cannot do anything when they kill us. They have exposed us.”

Dachomo announced that he had escalated the matter internationally. “I have nailed his name. He must appear to Interpol. Even when he hides in Saudi Arabia, I am very sorry for him. They will fish him out. He will appear in the International Criminal Court of the world to come and testify,” he said.

Calling for transparency, he demanded a high-level delegation to witness the opening of the graves. “I want they will put high delegate together with Minister of Defense, SSS of Nigeria. They must be at the grave,” he said, adding that the Chief Judge of Nigeria, the Chief of Defense, the Chief of Army Staff and senior commanders “must be present.”

“Let us dig the grave and see what is there. Who is lying?” he challenged.

Dachomo said he had instructed youths in the affected village to protect the graves from tampering. He also urged security operatives stationed locally to join in guarding the site.

“I have told the youth in that village to guard that tomb, because very soon they will send their machineries to come and dig the grave in the night and remove evidence,” he said.

He added that he had prayed at the site.

“Go to my Facebook, you will see me crying at the grave,” he said, calling on divine justice. “God of vengeance will fight.”

He concluded by demanding accountability from Gumi, declaring: “I command the grave by the power of Jesus to release her anger, to hold down Shegumi wherever he is. He will never know peace.”
