China Accuses Nvidia of Antitrust Violations Amid Ongoing Trade Talks

China announced on Monday that US chip giant Nvidia has violated the country’s antitrust laws, following an investigation by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). This announcement comes as trade talks between Beijing and Washington enter their second day.

The SAMR stated, “Following a preliminary investigation, it has been determined that NVIDIA Corporation has violated the Anti-Monopoly Law of the People’s Republic of China.” The agency has decided to conduct a further investigation into the matter.

Details regarding Nvidia’s alleged legal violations were not disclosed. The California-based AI powerhouse recently reported earnings that raised concerns about its operations in China, which have faced increasing scrutiny amid rising tensions between the two nations.

Just before the SAMR’s announcement, officials from both countries began their second consecutive day of bilateral trade discussions in Madrid, aiming to resolve differences on various contentious issues.
