A major political storm has hit Cameroon as Brenda Biya, the 27-year-old daughter of President Paul Biya, announced she is cutting ties with her parents — just weeks before the country’s presidential election.
President Paul Biya, who has ruled Cameroon since November 6, 1982, is one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, with over four decades in power. His daughter’s shocking move comes at a critical moment as citizens prepare to vote on October 12, 2025.
The Viral Revelation
In a TikTok live session that quickly went viral, Brenda declared her independence from the Biya family, accusing them of causing her years of pain.
“I’m no longer part of the family. I won’t take a penny of the money you used to control me. You have no idea how much these people have hurt me and continue to do so,” she said emotionally.
Brenda also took a direct swipe at her father’s long-standing rule, telling viewers:
“You know who to vote for; I’m not voting for Paul Biya.”
A Historic Moment
This public denouncement marks an unprecedented moment in African politics — the first time the child of a sitting president has openly opposed their parent’s government.
Reactions Pour In
The revelation has sparked heated debates both in Cameroon and across Africa, with many hailing her bravery while others view it as a deep family betrayal. Social media has since been flooded with mixed reactions, raising questions about the future of Cameroon’s leadership.
Ndi wrote,“As if her father has been there all these years because Cameroonians were voting him”.
Corneal Tim, “This man is the brain behind why many Africans leaders never believed they are old or too old to rul. I believe the day he steps down African will begin to elect eligible leaders either strength and sound mind”.
Dean Angabi stated, “Na only de*th go fit separate that man from the presidential seat.Na him lifetime office be that”.
Frendrick Unede added,”The girl don’t know that na him father be Cameroon? Na the man the decide what will happen and what not to happen”.
