Borussia Dortmund has commenced contract negotiations with forward Karim Adeyemi following his recent decision to sign with super-agent Jorge Mendes.
Adeyemi, who is currently under contract with the Bundesliga club until 2027, has recently elevated his profile with impressive performances, including standout goals against Juventus in the Champions League and Wolfsburg in the league.
The club aims to secure his long-term future, with discussions focused on extending his contract to 2029.
According to Sky Sport, sporting director Sebastian Kehl has already initiated preliminary talks with Mendes, whose influence is anticipated to significantly impact both the structure and financial terms of any new agreement.
Mendes has reportedly assured Adeyemi that he will play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of his career at Dortmund. This change marks Adeyemi’s third representation switch in the past year, but Mendes enters negotiations with considerable leverage due to the forward’s recent form.
Currently, the 23-year-old earns approximately €6 million annually, positioning him among BVB’s highest-paid players. A renewal could potentially elevate his salary closer to the €7 million range occupied by teammates Gregor Kobel and Serhou Guirassy. While Dortmund is eager to reward Adeyemi for his progress, they remain cautious about disrupting their wage structure.
Adeyemi has recorded 28 goals and 21 assists in 112 appearances for Dortmund since joining the club. Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming months, with the club keen to finalize terms before his contract enters its final two years.
The Nigerian-born German international is anticipated to feature again when Dortmund faces Mainz this weekend.
