Borno Police Recover Gold Worth ₦23.6m Buried During Boko Haram Attack

Borno Police Recover ₦23.6m Gold Hidden During Boko Haram Raid 15 Years Ago

The Borno State Police Command has recovered gold valued at ₦23.6 million, buried by a woman 15 years ago while escaping a Boko Haram attack in Mallamfatori, Abadam LGA.

The woman reportedly hid the gold in the sand before fleeing the insurgency-ravaged town. Upon her recent return, she approached the police for assistance in locating the valuables.

According to Command spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, officers recovered 22cc of gold estimated at ₦20m and a gold bracelet with a chain worth ₦3.6m after searching the exact area described by the owner.

Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid praised the officers for their integrity and professionalism, noting that the discovery highlights the deep losses residents suffered during years of insurgency.
