The Benue State Police Command has intercepted a snatched Mercedes Benz ML350 SUV and arrested four suspects believed to be part of a car theft syndicate operating across state lines.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, the operation followed an intelligence alert from the Imo State Police Command, which reported that the vehicle had been snatched at gunpoint in Owerri, Imo State.
“On 24th October 2025, operatives of the Command in Otukpo, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a black Mercedes Benz 4MATIC ML350 SUV in transit to Otukpo,” Edet said.
“Four male suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, and preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was being conveyed to another destination when it was intercepted.”
Recovered items from the suspects include two Android phones, three button phones, one power bank, a criminal charm, and documents belonging to another vehicle.
Edet added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, commended the officers involved for their swift response and urged residents to continue providing useful intelligence to help curb criminal activities in the state.
