A United Kingdom-based ally of former Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, Albert Obazee, has raised alarm after a fire gutted his residence in Amagba, Benin City. The incident reportedly occurred during the New Year crossover night.
Obazee alleged that the blaze was an act of arson carried out by agents loyal to the Edo State government, claiming the attack was linked to his outspoken criticism of authorities. Speaking during a Facebook live session, he said the incident would not silence him, describing the perpetrators as driven by hate and intolerance.
A resident disclosed that CCTV cameras failed to capture the attackers due to a blind spot, but quick intervention helped contain the fire. However, a government source dismissed the allegation as unfounded, urging the police to investigate and bring culprits to justice.
