Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has sparked fresh controversy after accusing two former governors from the North-West of laying the foundation for the region’s prolonged insecurity. In a viral video that emerged on Saturday, Turji alleged that a former Sokoto State governor and a former Zamfara State governor were responsible for the crises that devastated both states, calling for their investigation and arrest.
According to Turji, the insecurity escalated after political leaders armed vigilante groups known as Yan Banga, whom he claimed targeted Fulani communities and deepened violent reprisals. He denied being sponsored by politicians, insisting that no individual backs his activities.
Sources close to the accused former governors dismissed the claims, describing them as lies from a terrorist attempting to portray himself as a victim. Turji also denied allegations that he received ₦30 million during peace talks with the Zamfara State government, insisting the meetings were solely aimed at restoring peace.
