The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of journalists in a tragic road accident along the Bauchi–Alkaleri road on Friday, February 6, 2026.
The journalists were reportedly part of a media team accompanying an NEDC delegation for the commissioning and handover of completed projects across Bauchi State.
In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Services, Abba Musa, the Commission described the incident as heartbreaking and extended condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Government, the affected families, and the media community nationwide.
NEDC disclosed that its governing board has approved full support and care for the victims and their families. The Commission confirmed that it has begun reaching out to the journalists’ parent organizations and families to ensure proper coordination of assistance.
The Commission also prayed for the speedy and full recovery of those injured, noting that the incident comes shortly after a similar tragedy in Gombe State that claimed the lives of several journalists.
