Two individuals lost their lives and a vigilante was injured on Tuesday during an attempted attack by bandits on the Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area, Kwara South Senatorial District, as reported by DAILY POST.

Numerous residents were reportedly abducted during the violent assault. The victims were identified as Aderemi and Tunde Asaba Ajayi, both of whom succumbed to severe gunshot wounds inflicted by the armed bandits.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred around 18:00 hours, in a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi.

The statement detailed that the Divisional Police Officer in Eruku, along with his team of police operatives and vigilantes, promptly responded to the gunfire heard from the town’s outskirts, causing the assailants to retreat into the bush.

During a thorough search of the area, Mr. Aderemi was found fatally shot inside the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, while Mr. Tunde Asaba Ajayi was discovered in the bush with fatal injuries. A vigilante, Segun Alaja, who also sustained gunshot wounds, was rushed to the ECWA Hospital, Eruku, for medical care.

The State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, praised the rapid response efforts of the police and vigilantes. He assured the public that security forces are committed to ensuring the perpetrators are fully apprehended.
