Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun (AY) has issued a strong warning to fans against falling for the pressures of social media comparisons.
In a heartfelt video shared on his Instagram page on Thursday morning, AY spoke about how social media platforms like Instagram often showcase a carefully curated illusion of success — with luxury vacations, designer clothes, and flashy cars making life look effortlessly perfect.
The comedian revealed that many of these displays are fake and staged. According to him, some individuals borrow outfits, props, and even luxury locations just to appear wealthy online. Others, he said, take photos in hotel lobbies and pose with cars they don’t own, creating false impressions for likes and validation.
AY likened the online world to a movie set, where everything is planned to entertain the audience — not to tell the truth. He encouraged his followers to focus on their real-life growth and avoid unnecessary comparison with people who are only acting out roles online.
He emphasized that authenticity and simplicity bring more peace and fulfillment than chasing after a fake image of success. AY concluded by urging everyone to reflect on their social media habits, prioritize self-contentment, and build genuine happiness outside of online validation.
