Attempted Coup Fails in Benin as Army Regains Full Control

Benin’s Interior Minister, Alassane Seidou, has confirmed that the country’s armed forces successfully foiled an attempted coup launched by a small group of mutinous soldiers on Sunday. The group, led by Colonel Pascal Tigri, briefly seized the national television station and declared President Patrice Talon removed from office.

According to Seidou, Tigri is currently on the run, while several members of the group have been arrested. He praised the loyalty of the armed forces, noting that their swift action ensured the stability of state institutions.
The government urged citizens to remain calm as normalcy has returned nationwide.

Earlier, the rebel soldiers—calling themselves the Military Committee for Refoundation—announced Talon’s removal, but the president’s office confirmed he is safe and the “regular army is fully in control.”
