Political debate intensified on Thursday following the defection of Abubakar “Abba” Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe welcomed the move but openly questioned its sincerity, warning the ruling party against internal sabotage.
Reacting on social media, Igbokwe expressed excitement mixed with caution, stressing that the party must avoid accommodating a potential “mole.” Abba Atiku officially joined the APC on January 15 at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, where he was received by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, alongside other APC leaders.
At the event, Abba pledged to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and align with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The move came shortly after his father defected from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fuelling intense political debate. Atiku later clarified that his son’s decision was personal and independent of his own political stance.
