Atiku’s Camp Challenges INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu: ‘Release the Real 2023 Presidential Results Before Leaving Office’

The lingering controversies over Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election have resurfaced after Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, openly challenged the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

In a strongly worded statement posted on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, September 7, 2025, Ibe urged Yakubu to muster the courage to publish the comprehensive results of the February 25, 2023 election, beginning from the polling unit level.

According to Ibe, even if the results had been altered or “mutilated,” Nigerians deserve to see the raw data to permanently put to rest doubts over the credibility of the election.

“I hope that before he ends his tenure as the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu will be courageous enough to announce the comprehensive results of the 2023 presidential election starting from the polling units. It matters less if those results have been tampered with. Let’s have it warts and all,” Ibe declared.

The statement further reignited debates about the controversial declaration of President Bola Tinubu as winner on March 1, 2023—an announcement made in the early hours of the morning and widely criticized by opposition parties.

Ibe insisted that only full transparency from INEC could “bury the ghost of 2023” and restore public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.

This latest demand from Atiku’s camp raises the pressure on Prof. Yakubu as his tenure winds down, with many Nigerians still questioning whether the electoral body can rebuild confidence before the 2027 polls.
