Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a solidarity visit to the former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following the violent attack allegedly carried out by APC-sponsored thugs during the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.
During the visit, Atiku raised strong concerns about Nigeria’s democracy under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing the APC government as a “full-blown dictatorship.”
Tinubu’s APC ‘Greatest Risk to Democracy’ — Atiku
In a post via his official 𝕏 handle, the former Vice President accused Tinubu’s administration of being the biggest threat to Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999.
He declared that the opposition must unite to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative platform capable of delivering purposeful governance.
Alliance With El-Rufai
Atiku revealed that he and El-Rufai have resolved to harmonise their political strengths, standing together in what he called a battle to rescue Nigeria from what he described as an “incompetent and clueless” APC government.
“This evening, I paid a solidarity visit to former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, over his attack by APC-sponsored thugs at the recent inauguration of the ADC in Kaduna. We resolved to stand united to save our democracy,” Atiku wrote.
Opposition Unity on the Horizon
The meeting has sparked speculations of a strong opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 elections, as both Atiku and El-Rufai hinted at collaboration under the ADC banner.
Political analysts say the visit marks one of the strongest signals yet that the opposition may rally behind a single platform to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.
