Asake Rebrands, Changes Instagram Handle to “MrMoney” Ahead of New Album

Afrobeats sensation Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has officially changed his Instagram handle from “asakemusic” to “MrMoney”, sparking reactions from fans and industry watchers.

The sudden change, noticed by his over five million followers, came without any prior announcement, fueling speculation about a new phase in his music career.

“Mr Money” is not new to Asake’s identity — the nickname originated from his 2020 hit single “Mr Money”, which marked his major breakthrough in the Nigerian music scene.

The moniker gained even greater prominence after his 2022 chart-topping debut album, “Mr. Money With The Vibe”, which established him as one of Afrobeats’ most energetic and innovative stars.

Sources close to the singer revealed that the handle change aligns with the rollout of his next major project, titled “Money”, expected to drop soon. The forthcoming album will reportedly be his first release under his independent label, Giran Republic, following his exit from Olamide’s YBNL Nation earlier in 2025.

Industry watchers believe the move signals Asake’s new branding direction as he takes full control of his music career.

Recall that in July, entertainment lawyer Yemisi Falaye disclosed details surrounding Asake’s split from YBNL. According to her, the fallout traced back to his initial signing phase, when he hastily entered a contract without proper legal counsel — despite Olamide advising him to have the deal reviewed by a lawyer.

While neither Asake nor Olamide has publicly addressed the issue, the “MrMoney” handle switch appears to symbolize a fresh start for the singer, both creatively and professionally.
