Army Reveals Why South-East Is Calmer Now

The Nigerian Army has reported significant improvements in security across the South-East, crediting the gains to intensified military operations and the detention of separatist leaders, Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa.

Major General Michael Onoja said criminal activities in the region have reduced markedly over the past year as sustained troop deployments disrupted violent networks. He noted that the imprisonment of Simon Ekpa by Finnish authorities and the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu in Abuja weakened the group’s coordination and operational strength.

According to Onoja, attacks on lightly manned checkpoints, which previously led to the killing of security personnel and seizure of weapons, have dropped sharply. The Army said these setbacks have degraded the capacity of criminal elements to regroup and launch fresh assaults.

The military assured residents that operations would continue to consolidate the gains, safeguard lives and property, and maintain peace in the South-East.
