Arab and Muslim Leaders Gather in Qatar to Condemn Israeli Attacks

Qatar announced on Saturday that it will host a summit of Arab and Muslim leaders to denounce Israel’s recent attack on Hamas officials in Doha and to demonstrate solidarity with the Gulf state.

The meeting, scheduled for Monday, will consider “a draft resolution on the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar,” which will be prepared during a ministerial meeting on Sunday, according to foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari.

This summit is a reflection of “broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with the State of Qatar in the face of Israel’s cowardly aggression… and the categorical rejection of Israel’s state terrorism,” al-Ansari stated, as reported by the official QNA news agency.

Among the leaders expected to attend are Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also anticipated to be in Doha, although his attendance at the meeting has yet to be confirmed.

The Israeli strikes on Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer. This attack has drawn widespread international condemnation, including from Gulf monarchies allied with the United States, Israel’s primary supporter.

Qatar, which hosts the largest U.S. military base in the region, plays a crucial mediation role in the ongoing Gaza conflict alongside the United States and Egypt.

Analysts suggest that the summit aims to send a clear message to Israel. Andreas Krieg of King’s College London commented that the Israeli strikes were perceived across the Gulf as an unprecedented violation of sovereignty and an attack on diplomacy itself. He added that the summit signifies that “such aggression can’t be normalized.”

“The goal is to draw clear red lines and end the sense in Israel that it can act with impunity,” Krieg noted, predicting a more assertive stance on Palestine and a tougher approach to Israeli actions.
