The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Federal Government to take a strong stance against the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, over his recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
It was reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday, the APC state chairman, Tony Okocha, described Sowore as a “serial merchant of discord and purveyor of half-truths,” warning that his comments were defamatory, dangerous, and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
Okocha argued that spreading falsehoods against national leaders amounted to treasonable felony and should not be tolerated.
“Attempting to incite Nigerians against the government with crude language is treasonable. Any action capable of undermining public trust and threatening Nigeria’s democracy, stemming from malice, is unacceptable,” Okocha declared.
The APC chairman stressed that while constructive criticism remains part of democracy, Sowore’s recent attacks crossed the line.
Sowore had recently described President Tinubu as a “criminal” and accused Wike of using public funds to acquire luxury properties in Florida, United States — allegations Okocha dismissed as baseless.
“These allegations are nothing more than the bitter rantings of a man rejected at the polls and drowning in political irrelevance. What sane citizen calls the highest office holder in the country a criminal?” Okocha queried.
He further accused Sowore of building his reputation on lies and blackmail, pointing at Sahara Reporters as a platform notorious for spreading half-truths and fabricated stories.
Okocha recalled past cases where Sowore was charged by the police for forgery and false publication, adding that his #RevolutionNow protests in 2019 amounted to an attempted insurrection.
“No genuine democrat calls for the violent overthrow of a legitimate government. Sowore’s actions then and his continued incitement now prove he is more of an anarchist and a psychopath than a patriot,” he said.
The Rivers APC leader urged Nigerians to reject Sowore’s claims and instead focus on the progress made under Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“President Tinubu is implementing his 10-point Renewed Hope Agenda. The economy is recording growth, road infrastructure projects are visible, and the trillion-naira Lagos–Calabar expressway, once dismissed as impossible, is already on the fast track. Nigerians should celebrate these achievements instead of paying attention to baseless conjectures,” Okocha concluded.
